You, as a human being, don't have to defend your right to be. We all have a right to be here and be who we are. You have nothing to defend, so assume the viewpoint of no defense.
You are not a mistake and your singularity is the only one of it's kind in the Cosmos. You are a unique being just the way you are and you don't have to make excuses for any part of you.
In our culture, there exists a double standard in which we admire individuality while at the same time pressuring ourselves to conform. We secretly love the outlaw, the rugged individualist, the renegade but we punish the outsider with banishment. We meekly accept peer pressure so we can belong, not stand out, be accepted, be like everyone else.
At the heart of this double standard is our culture's, our society's inability to accept its wholeness and that can only come from accepting both our shadow and light sides in totality. We are the yin and yang of existence. We are both good and bad at the same time. Accepting that the good parts and bad parts, our weaknesses and strengths are part of our wholeness, that we must accept who we are for both the beast and the angel that we are, is the foundation of good emotional and mental health.
Please understand that I am not advocating wholesale bad behavior. That's not the point. What I am saying is that who we really are is made up of good AND bad traits and these make up the wholeness of who we are. I believe we need to accept ourselves for who we are and continue our soul's journey of Spiritual maturation while recognizing that we must grow ourselves by parenting our egos and at times this is fraught with the hills and valleys of psychic drama. So be it. We accept ourselves for who we are with no defense, having nothing to defend, never being defensive and never coming to a place where we harm ourselves or others.
Too many take down others because of their own misery. Hurt people hurt people. It is time to let go of the notion that hurting inside is negative. Sometimes we hurt, sometimes we exalt. If you are hurting inside, it's your soul's way of telling you to make a change. It is not negative, your soul is asking you to come into balance. Wholeness. If you need outside assistance with rebalancing, by all means, go get it. The key is to balance which is an on-going practice.
This is a must do for every persona/psyche/ego.
