"Know thy self." The best advice any philosopher gave humanity in my estimation.
How much time do you take to understand yourself? How much time do you take to explore your persona, psyche and ego?
From my point of view, it is essential as part of stepping onto one's Own Wisdom Path to delve deeply into understanding who and what we are.
What is the nature of your self? Why are you here? What is your purpose here? What are your characteristics, your motivations, your desires, your core beliefs?
How much have you made a study of yourself?
If you don't understand yourself, how can you evaluate and judge others?
I have made a life time of understanding myself and others. This has come from many areas including analyzing why I behaved certain ways in my experiences, hypnotherapy, therapy, personality tests, meditation, getting involved with Spiritual disciplines from Kabbalah to Buddhism, reading volumes of psychological and spiritual material and observing myself and others to see if we were coming out of ego or spirit, learning to look at both the good and bad aspects of my behavior toward myself and others and the list goes on.
I do have some idea about who I am and I encourage you to explore who and what you are and do so as deep as you can for understanding yourself leads to knowing yourself and this leads to enlightenment.
Do not fear what you will find. If you find demons, laugh at them. If you find Gods, celebrate them. The inner work of knowing thyself and others is the most interesting and greatest adventure you will take as far as I'm concerned.
